A Jacksonville-based barbecue restaurant chain is looking to open up in the Springfield neighborhood.
The city wants to have someone move into a long-empty property on Main Street — and Bono’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q has said it wants the space.
As reported exclusively in the Business Journal, Bono’s wants to put a restaurant, brew pub and performing arts space in the building.
The company is offering to pay the city $1,000 plus $96,000 in back taxes for the building. It would also take care of environmental cleanup at the site. It would then invest about $300,000 in building out the complex.
The city owns the property after the former owner failed to pay back a low-interest economic development loan.
