Helping Jacksonville Veterans Find Jobs

City of Jacksonville

A coalition of local companies are working together to lower Jacksonville’s high veteran unemployment rate.

About 10-percent of Northeast Florida veterans don’t have a job. The overall unemployment rate for the region is 6-point-three percent.

The Jacksonville Military Veterans Coalition created a web site, “Jobs for Vets” and eventually turned it over to the city.

Jacksonville-based staffing company Incepture was one of the first to join the coalition.

Its managed solutions director, and Navy veteran Matt Tuohy  says its a great site to connect businesses with veterans.

The coalition also participates in monthly veterans career counseling at City Hall.

At the meetings veterans are given job interview tips, resume reviews and learn how to explain how the skills learned in the military can transfer to the private sector.

Kevin Meerschaert has left WJCT for new pursuits. He was the producer of First Coast Connect until October of 2018.
