Jewelry, coins, baseball cards, Disney pins, pocket knives, flatware keychains, lighters, and stamps.
Those are just a sample of the more than 80,000 items up for grabs at the state's second unclaimed property auction of the year, set to begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. at the Fort Lauderdale Airport Hilton.
Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater’s Bureau of Unclaimed Property is previewing the auction today, showing off more than 450 lots that include a 1776 continental note, a 5.82 karat diamond ring and a baseball signed by Roberto Clemente.
The auction catalog notes that the signature on the Clemente baseball has not been authenticated
The items were turned over to the state after being recovered from abandoned safe deposit boxes.
The state's first auction of the year, held in June at the Tampa Grand Hyatt Hotel, was the second highest grossing auction in the 52 year history of Florida’s unclaimed property program.
The money raised at the auctions go towards funding for the state's public schools. The June auction raised $1.16 million.
