Thousands of homeless pets will get the opportunity to connect with caring families at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds Oct. 4-6 in a mega-adoption event sponsored by Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services.
ACPS manager Nikki Harris said shelter groups have worked very hard to make Jacksonville a "no-kill" city, where loving homes are found for sick and homeless pets instead of euthanasia.
The three-day event will feature thousands of cats and dogs that are ready for adoption.
“If you’re looking for a pet,” Harris said, “you’ll find one.”
Harris said the ACPS works closely with First Coast No More Homeless Pets and the Jacksonville Humane Society.
“We partner really well together,” she said, “concentrating our efforts to not do any euthanasia of placeable animals.”
Friends of Jacksonville Animals, a non-profit group, also helps support ACPS by paying for heartworm treatments and other medications for homeless animals.
Harris said the event starts at 10 a.m., but the line forms at least two hours before the doors open. She said the high-demand animals, like kittens and puppies, are the first to be adopted.
“Get there early if you’re looking for something specific,” Harris said.
