Government Shutdown Causes Confusion In Jax

The federal government shutdown is creating a lot of confusion, especially for people who have business with a federal agency.

Roosevelt Fluellen drove from his house in St Augustine to the Internal Revenue Service offices in the Charles E. Bennett Federal Building in downtown Jacksonville only to find out when he got there that they were closed.

“Well, it’s the first of the month and every month my agreement with the IRS is to make a payment so I came down to do that but at the door they told me I can’t go in," he said.

"I’m a little bit confused on what am I supposed to do because my payment is due today and now I’m wondering — is it going to be late?”

Fluellen says his agreement with the IRS was that he make his payments in person.  The security guards behind the desk, he says, gave him a 1-800-number to call so he can find out what they want him to do.

In addition to the IRS, the Bennett Federal Building also has offices for the Department of Housing and Urban Development and the U.S. Labor Department.
