Jacksonville's City Rescue Mission has seen an increase in families seeking food, shelter and clothing, following the recent decrease in the SNAP benefits program.
In a release, the non-profit, faith-based organization said that they expect to see the number people seeking emergency assistance to continue to rise.
“While it is difficult for those who are losing benefits, City Rescue Mission is here to help," said interim director Penny Kievet.
The mission says that the cuts, which took effect Nov. 1, are equal to taking 21 meals per month away from a family of four.
The SNAP cuts are also putting a strain on the city's other food banks, who also expect demand to continue to rise through the coming months.
