Time is running out to register for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. Under the law, uninsured Americans are required to purchase a policy from their employer or from the government by midnight next Monday, March 31.
Tony Penna, North Florida regional director for Enroll America, says people who have waited until the last minute to sign up shouldn’t encounter any problems or delays.
“We had a huge enrollment event in Jacksonville this past weekend where 36 p0eople came through the door and about 150 of those people actually enrolled," he said. "There were events like that all over the country and the system operated flawlessly.”
Penna says it’s possible the government could extend the deadline for people who are in the system but don’t complete the enrollment process by the Monday deadline. If you miss it, the next opportunity you’ll have to sign up is November 15.
Penna said there are three ACA enrollment events this weekend in Duval County: Southside Middle School, Shiloh Baptist Church and the Gateway Mall.
