Torture Of Pet Cat Galvanizes Springfield Community

Amy Garrett

The Springfield community is rallying around a couple whose cat was found tortured to death.Amy Garrett said her five year old cat Camus was doused with lighter fluid and burned alive sometime Monday.

She said she’s been amazed by the outpouring of support from her neighbors following the incident.

"Hundreds of people. Some I know, some I don’t," said Garrett.

"[A girl] just pulls up, and she just ran out of her house, grabbed flowers and brought them. Someone I’ve never met. I mean, it was just so touching.”

The couple has created a GiveForward project called “Justice for Camus” to raise reward money for information leading to arrest of the individual responsible for the cat's death. More than $2000 has been donated so far.

Anyone with information is urged to call First Coast Crime Stoppers or the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
