A new overpass on St. Johns County Road 210 opened to the public Tuesday.
The overpass will make morning commutes faster by bypassing traffic lights and train tracks. Officials say it also has a safety benefit because it cuts down on cars getting on and off US 1 from CR 210.
Florida Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Gina Busscher said that the overpass will be a nice surprise for drivers in the area.
“It should cut off about five or ten minutes of their commute time,” she said.
The next Florida Department of Transportation project in the area will be continuing construction on State Road 9B. Busscher estimates that it will be under construction for another year.
