Jacksonville University presented its inaugural Presidential Global Citizen Award Thursday to PepsiCo Chairman and Chief Executive, Indra Nooyi.

The Presidential Global Citizen Award was created to recognize excellence among global leaders in industry, government and the community.

Nooyi became the CEO of PepsiCo in 2006, and Chairman the following year. Since her start as Chairman, PepsiCo has doubled its sales from outside the U.S. The international market makes up about half of PepsiCo’s $65.5 billion in revenue.

Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown, a JU alumnus, expressed honor in having such a powerful woman visiting the city.

“Jacksonville University is a great school with great ideas and great people, so it’s no surprise that a visionary leader of her stature is being honored with the Presidential Global Citizen Award,” he said.
