City of Jacksonville Paying To Restore Power To Liberty Street Townhomes

News 4 Jax

The city of Jacksonville is announcing it’s paying the full cost of restoring electrical service to 20 townhomes near the collapsed portion of Liberty Street Downtown. City spokesman Dave DeCamp says the city is using its emergency purchasing power to hire a contractor and get power to residents within two weeks.

"We're working with City Council, who have been briefed. [City Council President] Clay Yarborough has exercised his discretion to support this. [Councilman] Robin Lumb has offered his support, and Mayor Alvin Brown authorized it just hours ago," DeCamp announced Thursday evening.

Residents at the Riverwalk Townhomes have been without power since Feb. 1, when part of the nearby road suddenly collapsed.
