Generation W Profiles: Marty Evans

Generation W Profiles is a series highlighting influential women.

Marty Evans has been serving on the boards of publicly traded companies for more than 30 years.

Evans says, “My title is rear admiral, U.S. Navy, retired. Today, I’m serving as a director of several companies including Weight Watchers International, which is a wonderful company that helps people improve their lives by dealing with the food issues. And I’m also the director of a company, the North Highland Company in Atlanta.

I speak to audiences about leadership and about what success is and how to move in that direction. I also mentor young women, and, pleased to say that several of the young women who I have mentored over the years are in college and at the Naval Academy, which I think is a very exciting opportunity for women today, any of the service academies.

When I was a more junior person in the workplace, it was really frowned upon that women get together and share stories and inspire and encourage each other. It was sort of seen as “those women over there, plotting.”

I cannot overstate how important it is and how exciting it is that women today have an opportunity to learn from others, to inspire others, to share their stories and really give people, give women, a sense that anything is possible."

Generation W Profiles are a collaboration between WJCT and the Generation W Women’s Leadership Conference.
