Generation W Profiles: Dr. Kathryn Peyton

Dr. Kathryn Peyton

Generation W Profiles is a series highlighting influential women.

Dr. Kathryn Pearson Peyton is a breast imaging radiologist who has founded and been the chief medical officer for the non-profit organization, Mammosphere, which is a technology company that stores and exchanges mammograms in the cloud.

All of her family going back three generations, was affected by breast cancer. So, she decided to become a specialist in breast cancer diagnosis by pursuing radiology and a fellowship in breast imaging to be a breast imaging radiologist. She did this in San Francisco and Jacksonville for 15 years.

Peyton says she will be most proud when she sees Mammosphere, a non-profit mission, available universally. Physicians will be able to pull mammogram records down from the cloud and immediately be able to provide important health care.

She says they are trying to engage women to get their providers to participate so that they can help their neighbor, their moms, their sisters and really improve the health care.

Peyton says she is making this one little teeny tiny change in the world, but if every woman makes that one teeny tiny change in their world, she thinks the cumulative effect is huge. Peyton says, “There is just so much potential for goodness to come out of this.”

Generation W Profiles are a collaboration between WJCT and the Generation W Women’s Leadership Conference.
