Jacksonville residents trying to beat the heat this summer may be interested in trying some of the state’s best ice cream. Users of the Foursquare app have rated Jacksonville ice cream shop Dreamette the best in Florida.
On Friday afternoon, customers were ordering at the window of the Dreamette ice cream shop, tucked away in Murray Hill.
Tierney Brown says she was a Dreamette customer since she was a baby, and she’s worked there for four years. She says the store has been open since 1948.
“I think just basically because we’ve been here so long, that people just, that's part of the whole appeal, it's nostalgic for people,” said Brown.
Foursquare is an app that allows users to recommend places. Foursquare users rated Dreamette the No. 1 ice cream parlor in Florida. Brown say’s it’s great to be recognized.
“We’re all very excited. It makes us very happy to hear that,” Brown said.
The walk-up ice cream shop offers soft-serve in vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, along with milkshakes, floats and sundaes.
Donna Brigman was there Friday with her 4-year-old granddaughter Bella. Brigman says they visit regularly.
“Cause it’s awesome, it’s a tradition,” she said.
Bella says it’s all about the sprinkles, “Rainbow ones,” more specifically.
Open seven days a week, this old-fashioned ice cream shop only takes cash, so be sure to stop at the ATM.
