Greenscape, CSX Partner To Give Away Trees Saturday

CSX
Volunteers from CSX plant a tree.

Imagine a drive-through where someone hands you a tree to take home and plant in your yard.

That’s exactly how tomorrow morning’s "Trees for Tracks" tree giveaway on Post Street in Riverside will work.

Anna Dooley is the head of Greenscape of Jacksonville which is a co-sponsoring the event along with CSX.

Dooley says guest can receive one tree per car and can pick from a bald cypress, red maple or sweet gum tree.

“We will have experts that will show you pictures of the three species we’re offering," Dooley said. "You’ll drive right through and the good CSX volunteers will put a tree in your car, and you can go home and get a shovel.”

Across the U.S., CSX is working with partners and neighbors to plant two trees for every mile of CSX track, as a part of its “Trees for Tracks” program. To date, CSX says the program has planted over 27,000 trees, with a goal to plant 42,000 trees by the year 2018.

The Trees for Tracks tree giveaway is being held at 829 Riverside Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32204 on Saturday, Nov. 14 starting at 9 a.m. and ends when all 800 trees are gone.
