Remembering Lonzie: Vigil Thursday Evening At Julington Baptist Church

Lonzie Barton
News4Jax

The short life of Jacksonville toddler Lonzie Barton will be celebrated at Julington Baptist Church tonight.

The Justice Coalition and the church organized the remembrance vigil.

The event begins at 6 p.m., and  organizers ask that people start arriving at 5 p.m. so they can sign a card.

They’re also asking everyone to bring a long-stemmed flower to include in a bouquet.

Remains believed to be those of the 21-month-old were found Monday in a wooded area off Philips Highway near State Road 9B, six months after he was first reported missing.

Lonzie’s mother Lonna Barton pleaded guilty last week to charges of child neglect and lying to police. She will be sentenced February 17.

Her ex-boyfriend, Ruben Ebron, who was babysitting the toddler at the time of his disappearance, directed police to the remains this week.

The state attorney’s office expects to add more charges to the ones Ebron already faces.
