For people looking to get involved in the community on Martin Luther King Day, several Jacksonville charities have organized service events in his honor.

First, Wells Fargo bank is teaming with the United Way, Hands on Jacksonville and and other groups to put on the Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service.

Organizers are asking for help painting buildings, landscaping gardens, building playgrounds and educating neighbors about resources available in the community.

Volunteer registration can be done online or starting at 7:30 a.m. Monday at Edward Waters College’s Adams Jenkins Sports and Music Center.

Another volunteer opportunity on MLK Day is Rock the Block, Habitat for Humanity’s initiative to bring neighborhoods together to promote community change.

The organization is asking for volunteers to help with minor exterior repairs, painting and landscaping in Jacksonville’s New Town neighborhood.

Registration for that event is also at Edward Waters College starting at  8 a.m Monday. The event will take place on West State Street. Lunch will be provided for volunteers. Visit www.habijax.org for more information.

Finally, the Mission Continues 1st Service Platoon is hosting a Hogan’s Creek cleanup. The organization is asking for volunteers to help replace plants, landscape and pick up trash.

Volunteers for the environmental cleanup should meet at Edward Waters College starting at 7:30 a.m., and projects will begin at 9 a.m. For more info on how to get involved visit www.missioncontinues.org.
