There have been a lot of changes in recent months to the leadership structure of the Duval County School System. In addition to the many demotions and promotions, a number of top positions have been eliminated and new ones created.
The way Duval County works under school Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti, teachers help students reach their potential, principals help teachers reach their potential and the 4-new region chiefs will help principals reach their potential.
One of those newly appointed region chiefs is Jackson High School Principal Iranetta Wright who, Vitti says, personifies the future of education in Duval.
"Ms. Wright has the knowledge of instructional leadership, the boldness and the courage to make difficult decisions, but also support adults. And I think that's exactly what I was looking for as a region chief. And I believe, again, that she represents the type of leader that it will take to go from good to great."
During her time as principal, Wright brought Jackson out of intervene status in part by nurturing partnerships with Haskell Architects, Big Brothers-Big Sisters, City-Year and the University of Florida.
In addition to approving the 4-new region chief positions, the Duval County School Board Monday night made 13 new principal appointments. Although many were already principals at other schools, some held director-positions at the district level.
The final set of principal shake-ups will be decided at the July 2nd school board meeting.
