Goodbye Nathan B. Forrest; Hello Westside Senior High

News4Jax

When Nathan B. Forrest High School opens its doors next year it will be as Westside Senior High. The Duval County School Board unanimously approved the name change at last night’s board meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti estimates it will cost around $400,000 to make the switch.

“That would go to the marquee façade with any of the former name being on the façade. Maybe the gymnasium floor, redoing that, and any uniforms associated with the name change,” he said.

Vitti said the funds will come from the school district’s capital outlay fund.

Private funding may also be an option. Vitti said he expects the board to decide in the next few weeks whether or not to accept donations from private individuals willing to help foot the bill.
