The question of student self-defense is under review right now in Duval County Public Schools. A series of proposed changes to the district's code of student conduct would change the way students are punished if they get involved in a fight on school grounds.

As it stands now, all students involved in a fight face the same punishment. However, under the revised rules, those who initiate a fight or are mutually involved in it would face harsher penalties than students who fought as a response to an attack.

However, one school board member says the revisions don’t go far enough.

Duval County School Board Member Jason Fischer says more should be done to protect victims of school violence who fight back. He joined Melissa Ross for more on the debate.
