This school year may be the last time Duval County elementary and middle-school students can choose what they wear to school.
The School Board is considering requiring them to wear uniforms.
The proposed mandatory uniform policy is for elementary and middle school students beginning the 2016-2017 school year. Duval Superintendent Nikolai Vitti unveiled a plan Tuesday to engage people who would be affected.
Parents and students should soon be able to take an online survey. After the Board reviews their feedback, the policy will potentially be adopted in January.
Vitti says the district tried a mandatory uniform policy years ago, but schools didn’t enforce it. He says this time around, schools will be more engaged during the process and will be able to choose uniform colors.
