Duval County School Board To Address Superintendent Vitti's Communication

The Duval County School Board met Tuesday before the regular board meeting to talk about its strained relationship with the superintendent.

Last month, board member Connie Hall told Superintendent Nikolai Vitti she didn’t like the tone he used while addressing board members in a workshop on Oct. 13.

Hall has drafted a letter to Vitti, citing what she calls his “persistent lack of respect.” She goes on to write about the importance of communication between the parties. And she demands he improve his communication manner and tone.

Hall is asking board members who agree to sign the letter. School Board Chairwoman Cheryl Grymes says she won’t be signing, but she hopes it will spark a conversation.

“I really want us to be able to get past this,” Grymes said, “use this as an opportunity for the board and the superintendent to really be able to sit down and have some more development so we do understand each other, understand where we’re coming from and also begin to move on from this.”

Grymes says she knows board member Paula Wright will be signing the letter. Board member Jason Fischer says he will not.
