The Jacksonville Public Education Fund is looking for a few hundred people who want to help improve the schools.
The organization has begun accepting applications for its fourth annual One by One Convention to be held Saturday, Jan. 23.
JPEF President Trey Csar says this year the conversation will focus on equity.
“What is it going to take in our community to achieve equitable outcomes for all kids. We know kids approach public education from a wide variety of different areas, from a whole series of different backgrounds but we think it’s incumbent on public schools to achieve success with each and every one of them, and what is that going to take.”
Plus, Csar says, attendees this year will have homework.
“All delegates, when they leave, will be asked to host a conversation about public schools in their local community and then to provide that information back to us so we can compile it together. And we think that’s a great opportunity to see some exponential growth in the number of voices that are able to participate in the conversation.”
The Jacksonville Public Education Fund is a local non-profit that wants to make sure every school in Duval County is of the highest quality.
Delegates to the first One by One Convention in 2012 created a list of priorities for the public schools that the Duval County School Board later incorporated into the district’s official strategic plan.
The application to attend the 2016 One-By-One Convention is available online.
The deadline is Jan. 8.
