Before Duval County can select a new school superintendent, the School Board Monday decided to revise its strategic plan.
“The strategic plan is our pathway to success,” Board Chair Paula Wright said. “It includes our core values, our beliefs. What do we want to be in five years? So it’s a look ahead.”
She said that look ahead will help determine what type of leader is needed.
Interim Superintendent Patricia Willis has been in charge since Nikolai Vitti left to lead Detroit Public Schools Community District in May.
The board also talked about holding superintendent search workshops later in the day to allow more members of the public to watch the process. They’ll also be taking public suggestions at community meetings.
While the board is tweaking its strategic plan, Wright and board member Warren Jones have been tasked with drafting the official request for proposal, required to hire someone new. The board’s also been talking with consultants about the search.
The board will meet next about the matter on Sept. 18.
