Do Rick Scott's Jobs Numbers Add Up?

The Office of Governor Rick Scott

When he campaigned for governor in 2010, Rick Scott pledged to create 700,000 new jobs if he won.

As Scott seeks re-election in 2014, he’s already touting his jobs record and falling unemployment.

This week though, a joint investigative series in the Tampa Bay Times and Miami Herald takes issue with the governor’s jobs claims.

According to the report, more than 300 job creation deals involving tax breaks engineered by Governor Scott have yielded only a fraction of the jobs promised.

For his part, Scott is strongly disputing the newspaper’s reports saying he’s proud of his record.

We took a closer look at the state of economic growth in Florida with Matt Corrigan, professor of political science at the University of North Florida and Jerry Mallot, past president of the JAX Chamber.
