Electro Lounge host and WJCT Music Director David Luckin joined Melissa Ross with his latest new music picks.
Rhapsody in Gershwin - Ted Rosenthal Trio
Luckin discovered this new jazz interpretation of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" on NPR's Fresh Air.
"The whole album is gorgeous; can't recommend it enough," he said.
Ultraviolence - Lana Del Rey
"She's all about the icons and Hollywood," Luckin said of dark chanteuse Del Rey's second major label release.
"It's very rich, it's very deep, it's very personal," he said. "It gets kind of heavy sometimes with some great guitar work, but it's pretty much down-tempo, a little more down-tempo than her last album which sampled more on a hip-hop kind of thing."
Bossa Nova Baby: The Ultimate Elvis Party Album
This compilation opens with Bossa Nova Baby (Viva Mix), as heard in Heineken's recent "Cities of the World" ad campaign and features a selection of 14 more upbeat Elvis originals and remixes.
"It's got three mixes from the Cirque du Soleil "Viva ELVIS" show which are really updated and really good," Luckin said. "I think the best one on there is the "King Creole" [Viva Mix], it's really good."
"I just think it's amazing that a gentleman who died in 1977 could still be the second or third biggest selling past artist," he said of "The King."
Electro Lounge airs Tuesday through Friday at 9 p.m. and Saturday at 10 p.m. on WJCT-FM and streaming at WJCTNews.org.
