05/05/16: School Lunches; Moe Williams; 'Amplify Your Business'; Destigmatize Me; Kerry Speckman

School Lunches

It’s a little-noticed move on Capitol Hill but one that could affect many thousands of kids and families in our area.

House lawmakers are quietly rolling back school lunch laws passed in 2010 which guarantee free lunches and after-school meals for children in high-poverty areas.

We look at how this could potentially affect low-income families on the First Coast with Zoe Neuberger, senior policy analyst with the Center for Budget and Policy Priorities, and Deirdre Conner, director of advocacy and communications at the Jacksonville Public Education Fund.

Moe Williams

We continue our coverage of Public Service Recognition Week, honoring America's public servants, with a spotlight on Jacksonville's Moe Williams Foundation.

After a great NFL career with the Jaguars, Moe Williams and his family started a foundation working to strengthen families and the entire community here on the First Coast.

Moe Williams and Ywana Allen, co-founder of the foundation, join us to discuss their work.

'Amplify Your Business'

Jen DeVore Richter, co-founder of the Jacksonville marketing firm Rock My Image, join us with a look at her new book, Amplify Your Business: A Rockstar Professional's Guide to Marketing Success.

The book is designed to help small business owners and entrepreneurs set the foundation for effectively marketing themselves.

This week is National Small Business Week.

Destigmatize Me

The upcoming "Destigmatize Me" event will showcase local art and music while raising funds to help support those on the First Coast living with a mental illness.

We preview it with event founder Dakota Lawrence and Jeanine Hoff of "Where Is the Sunshine," a social media resource promoting positive support and education for mental health.

Kerry Speckman

TheSpecktator.com blogger Kerry Speckman stops by with a rundown of the biggest events around town this weekend.

Sean Birch joined the WJCT team in late 2011 and was with the company until 2016.
