07/06/16: State Attorney, Public Defender Poll; UCAAN; 'Oh, Florida'; 'The Endless Summer'

State Attorney and Public Defender Races

A new UNF poll of likely voters in Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit shows the potential for turnover in the State Attorney and Public Defender offices.

Both Angela Corey and Matt Shirk are trailing their respective challengers in those races, Melissa Nelson and Charles Cofer.

Mike Binder, director of UNF's Public Opinion Research Laboratory, joins us to discuss the results of the survey.

UCAAN

We speak with Rachel Shur, leukemia survivor and founder of the United Cancer Advocacy Action Network (UCAAN), about the nonprofit's work connecting cancer patients with support networks.

Shur will make an appearance at Jacksonville's Ackerman Cancer Center Wedneday as part of the "UCAAN Change a Life" awareness cross-country tour.

'Oh, Florida'

Florida has decided a presidency, defined fun, launched rockets into outer space, and launched nationwide debates on critical issues.

So it’s no surprise that a new book covers weird, bizarre, and eye-opening events which have taken place in Florida and have made headlines across the nation.

We speak with Tampa Bay Times reporter and author Craig Pittman about his new book,  "Oh Florida! How America’s Weirdest State Influences the Rest of the Country."

'The Endless Summer'

The classic 1966 surf documentary "The Endless Summer" celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

The Sun-Ray Cinema will mark the occasion with a special screening of the film Wednesday night.

Event co-organizer and SURFER Magazine contributor Matt Shaw and professional surfer Justin Quintal join us to discuss the film's legacy.

Sean Birch joined the WJCT team in late 2011 and was with the company until 2016.
