The panel discussed with host Melissa Ross the fallout over JEA’s response to restoring electric service and sewage problems. Brian Pope from the Lubee Bat Conservancy in Gainesville joined us on the phone to talk about next weekend’s Florida Bat Festival and Jacksonville Civic Orchestra president and co-founder Nadine Terk talked about their free concert on Sunday. Principal flutist Julie Badger performed live.
Media Roundtable
The panel talked about the local reaction to JEA’s perceived slow response to Hurricane Matthew and CEO Paul McElroy saying “we blew it” when his promise to have all power back on by midnight Monday was wrong. They also talked about a federal judge ordering Florida to extend the voter registration deadline into next week due to the storm.
Bat Festival
The 11th annual Florida Bat Festival is held every year at the Lubee Bat Conservancy and is free and open to the public. Pope told Ross about the importance of bats in Florida which has several different native species. He also talked about some of the events and other bats which will be on display at the festival Oct. 22.
Civic Orchestra
Terk spoke about how the all volunteer orchestra was formed and it’s concert Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. John’s Cathedral in downtown Jacksonville. They’ll be performing works by Respighi, Chaminade and Brahms. Badger performed the Chaminade Concerto in studio.
