Monday on “First Coast Connect” we spoke with Women’s Center of Jacksonville Executive Director Teresa Miles and board president Lise Everly about Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This month’s First Coast Success featured Moxie co-owner Lisa Marie Johnson. Celebrating its 100th anniversary, we spoke with Jewish Family & Community Services CEO Colleen Rodriguez, and Cole Pepper told us how the Florida Gators fell just short of reaching the NCAA Tournament Final Four.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month

It is this area’s only certified rape crisis center for Duval, Baker and Nassau Counties. The Women’s Center of Jacksonville provides survivors with everything from forensic exams to counseling. According to the center, one in three women has survived sexual violence and statistics show one in six men have been sexually abused, too. Each year, April is Nationally known as Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

First Coast Success: Sarah Marie Johnson

She’s a star restaurateur and this area’s Small Business Leader of the Year. Karen Brune Mathis of the Financial News and Daily Record spoke with Sarah Marie Johnston, co-owner of Moxie Kitchen, in this month’s edition of First Coast Success.

Jewish Family & Community Services

They were founded in 1917 in Jacksonville with the goal of assisting anyone in need of food and shelter. Jewish Family Community Services is marking its 100th anniversary this month. The organization helps about 17,000 people a year, and 80 percent of its clients are not Jewish

The Florida Gators fell to Oregon, 77-70, Sunday in the East Regional Final. Florida is expected to field a strong team with several key players returning. The Sharks and the Armada are playing this week and the Baseball Grounds will play host to a game Tuesday between Florida and Florida State. Both teams are ranked nationally.
