10/3/2017: Jason Altmire; Pink Ribbon Symposium; Edible Northeast Florida; Players By The Sea

Tuesday on “First Coast Connect,” we spoke with former Congressman Jason Altmire about his new book “Dead Center” (01:15).

Dr. Takaya Jones with Baptist Health talked about this weekend’s Pink Ribbon Symposium (29:41).

This week’s segment of “Moveable Feast” featured Lauren Titus of “Edible Northeast Florida” magazine (36:16).

Players By The Sea Production Manager Jereme Raickett and Creative Marketing Manager Bradley Akers told us about this Saturday’s end-of-season fundraising event, “The Curtain Call” (47:24).

Jason Altmire

Altmire served three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2013  representing western Pennsylvania. He was that rare bird, a bipartisan centrist known for working well with both sides of the aisle. During his time in office, the nonpartisan National Journal calculated Altmire's voting record to be at the exact midpoint of the House.

That gave him the most centrist voting record in Congress.  Not surprisingly, that’s the title of his new book. In “Dead Center” Altmire offers some solutions to the polarization that has paralyzed Washington - and the country.

Pink Ribbon Symposium

The Pink Ribbon Symposium is celebrating its 10 year anniversary on Saturday. October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the theme of this year’s conference is the importance of knowing your body. News Anchor Jeannie Blaylock will be the keynote speaker. The expo features over 50 exhibitors and is expecting about 400 people to attend.

Moveable Feast- Edible Northeast Florida Magazine

It’s the new publication here in Northeast Florida that celebrates our local food culture.

In Tuesday’s Moveable Feast, our look at dining and hospitality trends across the First Coast, Leigh Cort of the Women’s Food Alliance speaks with Lauren Titus, editor of “Edible Northeast Florida” Magazine.

Players By The Sea

They’ve brought world class theatre to the beaches for more than 50 years. This Saturday, Players by the Seawill be celebrating outstanding volunteers, performers and financial supporters who help ensure the success and vibrancy of the theatre and its programs. It’s the theatre’s end-of-season fundraising event, “The Curtain Call,” featuring a special performance of “Smokey Joe’s Café.”
