There are sharp divisions along racial and party lines in a new UNF poll. The survey of registered voters in Duval County from UNF’s Public Opinion Research Laboratory finds more than half of registered voters oppose removing Confederate statues from public spaces. Opposition is strongest among Republicans at 83% and white voters at 68%. Meanwhile, 62% of local black voters would like to see the monuments go.
The poll was good news for Mayor Lenny Curry with 69% of registered voters strongly or somewhat approving of his time in office. Sheriff Mike Williams approval rating was 67%.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Mammosphere stores and exchanges mammograms and other breast imaging studies in the cloud. This provides immediate patient and physician access to essential prior mammograms, improving the accuracy of mammograms interpretations and thereby resulting in earlier detection of breast cancer while reducing unnecessary additional imaging, follow-up, and biopsies.
If you’re an up-and-coming company on the First Coast seeking venture capital, chances are you’ve knocked on the door of PS 27 Ventures. Next month, PS27 is hosting Leadership Week at UNF, where dozens of companies will come together to learn leadership skills and more.
PS27 has a few new companies with breakthrough innovations coming from across the region to Jacksonville for Leadership Week where 30 companies will come together.
Suwannee Roots Festival
The Suwannee Roots Revival Music Festival kicks off Thursday at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak. It features four days of music, food and fun. The lineup includes multiple Grammy winning Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn and local favorite Grandpa’s Cough Medicine.
