Ahead of his appearance January 1 at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, we spoke with artist and punk rock legend Henry Rollins (29:42).
We heard about the upcoming showing of the documentary of women entrepreneurs “She Started It!” with Karen Harding from Johnson & Johnson Vision’s Women’s Leadership Initiative TriciaRae Stancato from the Girls Scouts of Gateway Council (36:59) also joined us.
We were told about the upcoming performance of “‘Evil Dead: The Musical” at the 5 & Dime Theatre. (44:00).
Our panel discussed Mayor Lenny Curry stating that Jacksonville will submit a Request for Proposals to land the second Amazon North American Headquarters and its expected $5 billion in construction cost and up to 50,000 high-paying jobs. They also discussed this week’s UNF poll that showed a great racial divide in Jacksonville over the consideration of removing Confederate monuments from public places and the dust-up this week between Curry and Council President Anna Lopez Brosche over the creation of the Kids Hope Alliance.
Tickets went on sale Friday for artist, actor, author and punk rock icon Henry Rollins. Rollins returns to the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Jan. 1, 2018. His renowned spoken word shows feature photos and observations from his travels around the world. Melissa spoke with Rollins about his eclectic career, beginning with his days as frontman for the iconic punk band Black Flag to his evolution into a unique sort of celebrity today
‘She Started It’
Women are increasing their representation in business, but still account for less than 10% of founders of high growth firms, less than 4% of CEOs, and get less than 10% of venture capital funding. Four local women’s leadership groups are sponsoring the “She Started It!” Event to discuss the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs, and inspire women to embrace their own entrepreneurial spirits.
The event includes a screening of the “She Started It” documentary, a panel discussion, and networking session.
There are two opportunities to participate: 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.Oct,16, and 2 p.m.to 4 p.m. Nov. 19 at the Student Union Auditorium at the University of North Florida.
5 & Dime ‘EVIL DEAD: The Musical’
Five college students go to an abandoned cabin in the woods, and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them all into demons. It’s the hilarious live stage show that takes the elements of cult classic films like The Evil Dead and Army of Darkness and combines them into one crazy theatrical experience. “EVIL DEAD: The Musical” debuts Friday night at the 5 and Dime Theatre in downtown Jacksonville.
