Thursday on First Coast Connect we spoke with Congressman Al Lawson (D-FL5), about some of the issues he’s working on in Washington. We also discussed the primary challenge against him by former Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown (01:16).

Oh the heels of the Florida Times-Union investigation on the link between football and concussions, we discussed other dangers that can be prevented while kids are playing sports, like heatstroke, with the head of program development for the nonprofit Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program, Jim Mackie (29:24).

Our monthly segment Art Attack was a discussion about the local music scene with Jason Huckleberry Lewis from the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Shawana Brooks from the Jacksonville Public Library, Jason Honeycutt with 1904 Music Hall and Jacksonville Symphony Assistant Conductor Deanna Tham (36:23).

Kerry Speckman told us about some upcoming events in town, including Jerry Seinfeld’s appearing Thursday night at the Times-Union Center, a historical look at The Great Fire of 1901 Saturday at the Jacksonville Public Library, and upcoming concert performances including The Gipsy Kings, James Taylor, Wynonna with The Jacksonville Symphony and next weekend’s Funk Fest.
