8/15/2018: Florida Refugee Cup; Land And Water Conservation Fund

Wednesday on First Coast Connect we heard about the upcoming Florida Refugee Cup soccer match, held to highlight the importance of refugees and immigrants to the Jacksonville community, with ANSL League Director Josh Kimball, Coach of the Jax Eagles and Florida Eagles soccer teams Henry Howard, and Florida Immigrant Coalition refugee organizer Basma Alawee (01:05).

The Land and Water Conservation Fund, created by Congress in 1964, is scheduled to sunset on Sept. 30. We spoke with Florida Wildlife Federation COO and general counsel Preston Robertson on the organization efforts to get Congress to renew the fund (28:28).

She is Fierce! Iand WJCT are hosting a event Friday evening at the Main Public Library in downtown Jacksonville with Today Show Style Editor Bobbie Thomas. The opening night event is the prelude to WJCT’s A Day 4her wellness retreat at the Hyatt regency on Saturday. We heard about both events with She Is Fierce! founder Kelly Youngs.
