Charlene Shirk was our guest host Wednesday on First Coast Connect.

Wednesday on First Coast Connect featured guest host Charlene Shirk. She was joined by Alex Rudnick from Generation U.S, Phyllis Martin from United Way of Northeast Florida and Brenda Ford from New Town. They discussed the Community Leaders Igniting Mobility, or CLIMB project that looks to help unemployed and underemployed youth in Jacksonville find quality jobs (01:20).    

We discussed the link scientists and environmentalists say is occurring between rising global temperatures and the strength of hurricanes with Susan Glickman who runs Florida operations for the Southern Alliance for Clean Energy (27:14).

The annual Real Men Wear Pink fundraiser for breast cancer research is upon us where several prominent community leaders wear pink to raise awareness of the disease. We were joined by Anne Taylor, Senior Manager, Community Development with the American Cancer Society and Dennis Chan, owner and chef of Blue Bamboo restaurant who is one of this year’s participants (39:06).

This is Hispanic Heritage Month with several events commemorating Hispanic culture around the area. We were joined by  Christina Parrish Stone,Director of Programming and Events for Friends of Hemming Park, and Eugenio Maslowski with the Hispanic Culture Film Festival (46:00).
