District 10 Jacksonville City Councilman Terrance Freeman appeared on First Coast Connect Thursday with guest host Charles Griggs.

Freeman, a Republican, took listener calls and addressed concerns about his council appointment by Gov. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in a district that is made up of largely Democratic voters.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the need for shelter and services for victims of domestic violence in this area is greater than ever. Gail Patin, CEO of Hubbard House in Jacksonville and Joyce Mahr, CEO of Betty Griffin Center in St. Johns County joined us to discuss the issue.

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens Acting Director Holly Keris and guest curator Jeffreen Hayes, Ph.D.  told us about the upcoming exhibition “Augusta Savage: Renaissance Woman.” The exhibition, will open in October for a rare double-run through April 2019.

We also got a preview of Saturday’s JaxByJax Literary Arts Festival from organizer Darlyn Kuhn. It will be held Saturday from 1:30 to 6 p.m. at Park and King Streets in Jacksonville’s Riverside area.
