Going Green While Standing Up To Mother Nature’s Fury
Wednesday’s Going Green segment looked at a Florida home builder who's making hurricane-resistant, sustainably sourced prefabricated houses.
Green Dwellings CEO Karen Adams told us about the steel and concrete homes that she said are built to withstand winds up to 200 mph. The homes can also include batteries, allowing residents keep the lights on when grid power goes out.
Coming Out Day
Jacksonville's first Coming Out Day breakfast was 12 years ago. More than 800 people are expected to attend this year’s event.
JASMYN CEO Cindy Watson and author/advocate Darnell Moore joined us with a preview. Moore will be the keynote speaker at Friday’s event, which runs from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel.
Void On Vinyl
Back in the day it wasn’t unusual for radio stations or even cereal comapanies to put out records.
With vinyl's making a comeback, Jacksonville-based Void Magazine decided to give the retro trend a try with Void on Vinyl (Vol. 1).
It features 11 tracks from notable Northeast Florida acts with an eclectic mix of genres featured. Void's Editor In Chief Matt Shaw, joined us with a look at what record lovers can expect as they play it local.
