5/16/19: Move To Eliminate Food Deserts; Money Week; Madison Carr Performance

The Jacksonville City Council unanimously approved an incentives package at its Wednesday meeting for a pilot program aimed at bringing more fresh, nutritious food to food deserts across the northwest side of Jacksonville.

A food desert is defined as any urban area in which at least 33 percent of the residents live a mile or more from a grocery store.

Janet Owens, Executive Director of the Local Initiatives Support Corporation and Paul Tutwiler, Executive Director of Northwest Jacksonville Community Development Corporation joined us with more.

Madison Carr is an 18-year-old high school student from Douglas Anderson School Of The Arts in Jacksonville. She's already making waves with her singing career. She gave us an in-studio performance of her new song "freedoms cage." Madison will be performing at the St. Johns River Taxi on May 18th.
