Duval County has the highest per capita heroin and fentanyl related death rate of any county in Florida, according to Project Save Lives.
Project Save Lives is looking to curb this epidemic by coordinating services for patients with opioid withdrawal issues. Former Jacksonville City Councilman Bill Gulliford and Medical Director of Gateway Community Services Raymond Pomm joined us with more information.

Nelson Mandela
In honor of the late Nelson Mandela’s 101st birthday, Dr. Makaziwe Mandela, the eldest daughter of Nelson Mandela, will be traveling to Jacksonville later this month for the first ever Nelson Mandela International Day in Jacksonville.

V For Victory
Paul Scott, one of the owners of V Pizza and one of the founders of V for Victory, a nonprofit that helps local families coping with cancer, joined us on Wendsday’s First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross to give an announcement.
V for Victory is raffling off a refurbished 1966 Volvo 220-series station wagon. The giveaway will begin at all V pizza locations on July 3 and the winner will be announced July 21. Tickets are 10 dollars and only available for purchase at the restaurant locations.
