Governor Ron DeSantis is proposing a pay raise for Florida teachers. He is urging Florida lawmakers to raise the minimum starting salary for teachers to $47,500.

Joining the conversation about the proposal on First Coast Connect with Melissa Ross on Wednesday was Terrie Brady of Duval Teachers United and Fedrick Ingram of the Florida Education Association.

Mental Health First Aid

It’s a first-of-its-kind campaign in which a coalition of local hospitals is bringing free mental health training to our area.

We spoke with Dr. Ellen Williams, Clinical Psychology at Ascension St. Vincent’s, Willie Roberts, facilitator at Ascension St. Vincent’s and Ann-Marie Knight, partnership member with UF Health.

It’s Hispanic Heritage Month

Our area is seeing rapid growth in its Hispanic population.  Tracking the growth of that business space is the First Coast Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. We checked in with Monica Hernandez of the First Coast Hispanic Chamber.
