A vigil for victims of recent police-involved shootings will be held in Jacksonville Friday, about 24 hours after a similar event ended in a deadly mass shooting in Dallas.
Police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota this past week have attracted national attention, sparking protests after videos of the incidents went viral online.
The Springfield vigil is also meant to remember the police-involved shootings of Jacksonville residents Vernell Bing and Keith Crowder.
The FBI is investigating Bing’s death. Jacksonville activists are calling for a federal investigation of Crowder’s shooting as well.
The vigil is at the corner of North Liberty Street and East 9th Street at 6:30 p.m.
