Jacksonville Landing Accepting Artist Submissions for Mural Project

The Jacksonville Landing is going to brighten up its interior walls through a local-artist mural project.

Its mostly blank walls currently feature simple green tropical plants and light blue pelican figures. Local artist Nicole Holderbaum wants to change that and has partnered with the Landing. She will accept artist submissions for seven murals to revamp the interior.

She said the director of the Landing approached her with the idea to do something with the wall spaces.

“I had this idea — you know — this mural project where we could open it up for any artists to kind of apply with their personal concepts,” Holderbaum said.

Not only will it let artists show off their work, Holderbaum said this will help artists grow their portfolios — even if they don’t have any previous mural experience.

“We really want to enable artists to look within themselves as artists and try to find their true purpose and the message that they want to send through their art,” Holderbaum said.

She said there aren’t any real limitations or themes, just that it should be kept family-friendly. She hopes to have a balance of abstract and realistic paintings on display for the project’s grand unveiling at the Art Walk in May.

Interested artists have until April 7 to apply.

Holderbaum said she plans to hold this contest annually to feature new murals.
