Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Wednesday in Jacksonville that the new Interstate-95 flyover ramp to J. Turner Butler Blvd. will open next week.
“You’ll be able to bypass the stoplight when you are going southbound on 95 to go eastbound on JTB,” Scott said. “It will give over 112,000 daily motorists a non-stop connection.”
Congressman and former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford, R-FL4, called the backed-up traffic on I-95 South a traffic safety nightmare.
“Folks will be able to traverse this intersection now in a very safe manner,” Rutherford said. “The number of traffic crashes and lives that this one flyover will save is going to be substantial.”
The new ramp is set to open on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
It’s part of a $78 million state highway project that’s been underway since 2013. It also includes road widening and resurfacing, as well as noise walls.
Overall, Jacksonville has about $1.7 billion worth of ongoing transportation projects.
