Jacksonville Motorists Face Weekend Closures of Hart, Main St. Bridges

Getting in and out of downtown from the Southside is going to take some extra planning for the next few weekends. Both the Hart and Main Street bridges will be closed for repairs and improvements.

Nightly closures for the Main Street Bridge started Monday, with full closures coming the next two weekends.  The Hart Bridge will see closures the next three weekends.

Here’s the closure schedule and construction details for both bridges:

Hart Bridge

  • Closed Friday, September 22 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, September 24 at 6 a.m.
  • Closed Friday, September 29 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, October 1 at 6 a.m.
  • Closed Friday, October 6 at 7 p.m. until Sunday, October 8 at 6 a.m.

Main Street Bridge

  • Closed Wednesday, September 20 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Closed Thursday, September 21 from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Continuous closure: Friday, September 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, September 24
  • Closed Tuesday, September 26 from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Closed Wednesday, September 27 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Closed Thursday, September 28 from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • Closed Continuous closure: Friday, September 29 from 6:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, October 1

Replacement of wire rope, coating of structural steel, drainage work and steel plate rehabilitation is being done to The Hart Bridge at a cost of $4.3 million, with the project expected to be completed this fall.

In the heart of downtown, crews are reinstalling an overhead temporary work platform on the Main Street Bridge that was removed as a precaution in preparation for Hurricane Irma.

The $10.7 million Main Street Bridge project is scheduled to be completed this fall with improvements to the mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
