A Jacksonville murder suspect wanted in connection with a deadly gas station shooting was captured this week at a Houston-area hurricane shelter, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Julian Williams, 36, was taken into custody Tuesday on an out-of-state fugitive warrant in Harris County after authorities received a Crime Stoppers tip, our News4Jax partner reports. He had been sought by Jacksonville police for months.

Williams is suspected of shooting 20-year-old Christopher Thurston during a July 23 encounter at a gas station near Blanding Boulevard and Duclay Road, police previously said.

According to court records, Williams was arguing with another man inside the business when Thurston walked inside. The door bumped into Williams and the pair traded words, records show.

The arrest warrant states Williams was seen following Thurston down an aisle, shooting him once in the chest and then shooting another man who tried to intervene. Several witnesses identified Williams as the shooter.

Thurston was taken to Orange Park Medical Center, but did not survive.

Williams faces charges of murder, aggravated battery and possession of a firearm by a felon. It remains unclear when he will be extradited back to Jacksonville.
