Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry Wednesday named six people he’d like to see appointed to the board of the new Kids Hope Alliance.
“Key priorities for my administration continue to be public safety and youth development,” said Mayor Curry in an email to WJCT News. “I am confident both of these priorities will be strengthened by the service and programs provided through the Kids Hope Alliance. These individuals are dedicated members of our community who share my commitment to safe neighborhoods and serving local youth. They will serve our city well.”
Registered Nurse Rebekah Davis, Operation New Hope-Ready4Work founder and CEO Kevin Gay, retiring Edward Waters College President Nat Glover, Army veteran Joe Peppers, Adecco Group North America Senior Vice President Tyra Tutor and oral surgeon Doctor Marvin Wells will all sit on the board if they’re confirmed by the city council.
Last week the mayor appointed Jacksonville Chief Financial Officer Mike Weinstein as the Interim Executive Director of the new Kids Hope Alliance.
Curry says he’ll name someone to fill the remaining board vacancy at a later date.
The Kids Hope Alliance was created this fall by combining two of the city’s existing youth initiatives: Jacksonville Journey and the Jacksonville Children’s Commission.
The Alliance’s focus is on helping at-risk children succeed in school.'
