The Salvation Army kicks off its annual Red Kettle campaign in Duval County Friday.
Spokeswoman Kelly Belich said Red Kettle volunteers will start ringing bells and collecting donations at area Publix stores. Other locations will be added after Thanksgiving.
“That change really adds up. And it really is a significant fundraiser. You could call it our largest fundraiser for our local programs,” said Belich.
Among the local programs that will benefit are the Salvation Army's food pantry, homeless shelter and meal ministry. “We serve a hot meal every single night of the year at 6:30 p.m. at our Towers Center of Hope. Everybody who’s hungry is welcome to that meal,” Belich added.
The Red Kettle Campaign kicks off at noon on Friday at the Publix at Roosevelt Mall on Jacksonville’s Westside.
Belich says volunteers are still needed. You can sign up on The Salvation Army’s Ring the Bell webpage.
