Mayor Lenny Curry Names Brian Hughes As New Chief Of Staff

Mayor Lenny Curry has appointed a longtime political strategist as his new Chief of Staff.

Brian Hughes will be officially joining the mayor’s office on January 2.

Hughes has a lengthy resume in Florida politics, including serving as Gov. Rick Scott’s former deputy communications director and as the former deputy executive director of the Republican Party of Florida.

“To me and dozens of other elected officials, Brian Hughes has been a senior advisor on important matters of public policy and communications,” said Curry in a statement emailed to WJCT News.

Hughes background includes working as a professor at colleges and universities in New York, Oregon and New Jersey. He also served as a public policy advisor having worked in Washington D.C. for several members of Congress, according to the mayor’s office.

Hughes has been working with Curry on a variety of initiatives.

“Working with me, Brian has already put a powerful imprint on our city’s future. From the pension solution to restructuring how we serve Jacksonville’s children with the Kids Hope Alliance, Brian applied his strengths to benefit this great city. I am honored to have him join my administration in a leadership role,” said Curry.

Hughes is the founder of Meteoric Media Strategies. The consulting agency website is described as working “with public officials, private corporations, and non-profit organizations, specializing in strategic counsel, media relations, content creation, TV, radio and internet media production.”
