Volunteers will head out in the early morning hours of next Wednesday, January 24, to find people who are living on the streets in Jacksonville and at the beaches.
They will be participating in the federal government’s annual Point in Time count, headed locally by Changing Homelessness.
Michelle Query with Changing Homelessness said preparations for the count include organizing items to give to people who participate in the homeless census.
“We have had an outpouring of support from our community donating things like blankets, personal hygiene items, socks, you can imagine toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.”
Query said volunteers are needed Thursday afternoon, January 18, to help bundle the items into more than 400-individual personal hygiene kits.
Volunteers are also still needed to help with next week’s point in time count, which will provide a snapshot of Northeast Florida’s unsheltered population.
